Any Engineer, sooner or later, will have to manage projects and use the acquired knowledge and skills of this course. The course includes the description and explanation of all the project management processes, as well as the illustration of the relevant tools for the management of scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk and procurement processes. Techniques such as Gantt, CPM, PERT, budgeting, cash flows, resource leveling, cost-time trade offs are quickly reviewed but special attention is given to sophisticated techniques and best practices such as Earned Value Analysis, Organisational structures, Critical Chain, etc.

The course emphasizes the importance of the Risk Management Processes and includes an extended section for "risk identification", "risk analysis (qualitative – quantitative)", "risk response planning" and "follow up".


By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understanding the basic principles and terminology of project management according to relevant international standards.
  • Understanding and using the processes included in the project management knowledge areas (integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, procurement).
  • Implementing basic methods and techniques related to the aforementioned knowledge areas (WBS, CPM, PERT, Gantt, Slacks calculation, Organisational Structures, RACI, Cash Flows, EVM, Risk Sheets, Resource Leveling, Contract types, Schedule Tracking, Budgeting).
  • Using software for project management (such as MS Project, Openworkbench).
  • Understanding and using the processes included in risk management (identification, analysis, reaction and follow up).
  • Implementing basic methods and techniques related to the aforementioned processes (Risk Breakdown Structure, Risk catalogues, Risk matrix, Probability and impact scales, Risk exposure, Avoidance/ mitigation/ trasnfer response strategies, Risk sheets).
