COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a course straightforwardly related to the Engineering science, since the alumni of the Department, sooner or later, will have to manage projects and use the acquired knowledge and skills. The course includes the description and explanation of all the project management knowledge areas (scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and integration management). Αim of the course is to make the students get familiar to the knowledge areas of project management along with making them capable of using basic relevant tools and methods.

The course is divided into two sections. The first concerns Project Management theory while the second uses a particular software tool for Project Management and is delivered at the PC Lab. The latter section covers half of the course and is completely in line with the first section, as it explains to students how they will use the theory in practice (software).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, students will be capable of:

  • Understanding the basic principles and terminology of project management according to relevant international standards.
  • Understanding and using the processes included in the project management knowledge areas (integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, procurement).
  • Implementing basic methods and techniques related to the aforementioned knowledge areas (WBS, CPM, PERT, Gantt, Slacks calculation, Organisational Structures, RACI, Cash Flows, EVM, Risk Sheets, Resource Leveling, Contract types, Schedule Tracking, Budgeting).
  • Using software for project management (such as MS Project, Openworkbench).
