COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course includes the description and explanation of all the project management processes according to widely accepted standards (ISO21500, PMBOK, ICB, APMBOK, ELOT1429), as well as the presentation of the relevant tools for the management of scope, time, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk and procurement processes. Techniques such as Gantt, CPM, PERT, budgeting, cash flows and cost-time trade-offs are presented. Special attention is given to sophisticated techniques and best practices such as Earned Value Management, Organisational structures, Critical Chain, etc.

Moreover, the course distinguishes between project and programme management and concentrates on the differences between the two.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles and terminology of project management according to relevant international standards.
  • Understand and use the processes included in the project management knowledge areas (integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk, procurement).
  • Implement basic methods and techniques related to the aforementioned knowledge areas (WBS, CPM, PERT, Gantt, Slacks calculation, Organisational Structures, RACI, Cash Flows, EVM, Risk Sheets, Resource Leveling, Contract types, Schedule Tracking, Budgeting).
  • Use software for project management (such as MS Project, Openworkbench).
